JC: "That's a record for 14 year-old space cadets who want to take acid for the first time. It all came out in one long process. It was all done on the Oberheim keyboards. There were loads of samples, different bits and pieces chucked in all over the place. There's some really good big-sounding classical bits that have got a really deep sound, and they were all sampled and looped up. I hadn't got anything written, so I just jammed the whole thing. I started on a Monday morning and by Friday it was all done. With Chill Out a lot of the parts we had prepared and mixed and so it was a case of mixing them together in the right way."

It will probably remain a mystery forever why every fckn year a new (unofficial, of course) LP reissue of 'Chill Out' floods the market, but the bootleggers obviously never get the idea that their potential buyers have been waiting much more urgently for a 'Space' reissue on vinyl for ages...!

Rumor has it the reason why Earth isn't listed on the Space album is because The Orb's album Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld was slated to be Earth. On a different note, if you play Chill Out and Space simultaneously, they SYNC! Alex Paterson did it live before the opening act. Then he went to his booth where he sold his own t-shirts etc, and I asked him about it, and he confirmed it.
        Both albums are classics!

First up, someone is asking US$600 for a CD. A CD! Of this. Crazy. I have so many questions. Why is this not being sold anywhere, now? Can you just see peoples eyes popping out they heads when one of these tracks comes up in some Ambient Chill mix from Spotify or iTunes or wtvr? The man is a master of mood an interest and cool. I'm just not paying some scalper $600 for a CD of anything. I got to listen to this several times over vacation because a buddy brought his copy with him.

For those who only know the masterpiece "chill out", have a listen to this one because it is even better!
More than 30 years after it's release it still sounds as good as back in the days!

The spirits of Tomita (‘Snowflakes Are Dancing’, 'Bermuda Triangle') & Frankie Knuckles ('Your Love') loom large over this heavenly, epoch-makimg chillout set. Get the original, well worth it. Mine seems to be a slightly different promo (i.e. regular not white labels & plain instead of KLF inners but it includes the press release, with the front cover also stickered 'Appearing, Scott Piering, 16 Jul 1990', same as a coupla KLF 12s I have).

Nevermind that you can't buy the unofficial releases here via Discogs. They're garbage pressings. You want the o.g.
Easily one of my favorite ambient albums ever. (And the competition is fierce in this category, especially for the early 90s.) Made back when Cauty had a strong Orb connection, and you can hear that more in this album than any other KLF release.
How do you not own this already? It's bliss on a black disc.

Also contains samples from Leo Muller ‎– Bobby And Betty Go To The Moon https://www.discogs.com/Leo-Muller-Bobby-And-Betty-Go-To-The-Moon/master/507752.
                  Plus Snap - The Power!
Also, there seems to be an influence from Frankie Knuckles- Your Love, as the keys are fairly similar?
And there is an interpretation (the bell sounds) of Fini Tribe*- De Testimony (Collapsing Edit)

So a little true story from the vaults of my wonky mind.
A mate (the name isn't supplied so as to protect the innocent?) and me.
We had just dropped a little something that would make your eyes and ears see and hear a little differently.
This album was on the turntable.
The lights were switched off and a couple of candles were lit.
We were sitting on the edge of my mattress which was on the floor (we weren't hippies honest mannn!).
Over our heads, we had a double duvet so we felt like we were inside some kind of space pod.
As the ingested substance started to climb up inturn the music started to bob and weave through our brains.
It even got to a point where we were part of the music traveling inside this pod to places never heard of and never seen before.
                  What an amazing trip!
That was until my dad burst in shouting "Will you turn that fucking racket off! And why have you two got a duvet on your heads? And WHY is there a cigarette nearly about to burn through that tape cassette case!"
It was only until then that we realized we hadn't really traveled very far physically (but mentally we had) and the earth suddenly became more real!
It turns out I had (in my utter enthusiasm) turned the music up so loud that the neighbors had complained!
F**king reality always gets in the way of a sorted trip.
Oh well, it was worth it for experiencing such beautifully powerful music!...

I've so far worn out two copies of this LP. The original press from 1990 (which I bought from Bluebird Records SoHo) and then the later press (Bought it from HMV in the early 2000's) And now I am onto my third copy!
Stunning LP which every time I hear, I hear new sounds within the music.
Coupled with KLF- Chillout (that had only come out a couple of months before this release) it sure was exciting times for that acid house ambient experience!
                  Could I go on?
                  Probably!
                  But sod that!
Let the music and mind speak to each other eh.
                  Peace

P.s. Oh and just in case you were thinking what a couple of loose nuts.
You are correct! But the cigarette incident isn't as pyromaniac as you think.
Just a little oversight maybe whoops!

Peace out to the other reviewers as reading your own experiences is as spaced out too ;)

Nearly 27 years on this album is still a staggering achievement! Though I must admit that when it was released I was only 11 so it's not like I can do a retrospective review of any kind.i discovered it in the mid 90's and the vinyl copy I had was a actually a w/l promo with a press release sheet.said press releases said it all and I was overcome with a sadness that I had not been around to appreciate it fully at time of release.the journalist talked about being away at an all night rave and coming back to find this on her 'to be listened to/reviewed' pile of records.my jealousy from not being in that privileged situation aside,i have to say,she nailed it!!!
If you ever get the chance to read it I highly recommend it,you'll be transported back to those idle and optimistic times.
That said, musically,it's up there with AFX's SAW or FSOL's Accelerator for the time, except that it probably exceeds them.
