Reviews
- This set is pretty much the definitive version of Script. It sounds better than the 99 remaster and gives the original vinyl a run for it's money too. The extras are excellent. The live Marquee gig catches the band in their ascendency, strong, powerful vocals from Fish with the band really hitting their stride (yes, even the soon-to-be-replaced Mick Pointer) and is a worthwhile addition to the extensive live canon released by the band over the years.
The blu-ray is where the joys of this set lurk: the 90-minute documentary is a revealing stroll through the early years of the band and speaks with all of the supporting players along with the main band members. Excellent stuff. Finding Recital of the Script was on here was a pleasant surprise and means my, truncated, VHS can now finally be relegated to the loft.
My one gripe is the second disc. Containing only the Market Square Heroes EP and b-side Charting The Single it could have been filled out by including the Manchester Square demos from the 1999 2-CD edition or better still popping on some of those scratchy, yet fascinating, early live recordings like Alive, Lady Fantasy, Herne The Hunter or The Haunting of Gill House. I know the quality is poor but the archival value is such that many fans would welcome an official release after years of trading bootleg tapes and vinyl.
All that said, though, this is a fine release. Buy with confidence! - Edited 2 years agoThe remastering done here is excellent, whilst still being true to the original. This is my favorite version of this album.
The live CDs are fine, but just feel a little like fillers to me. However the Blu-ray film is definitely worth a watch, even if it doesn't bring anything new that a Marillion fan would know already.
The packaging is really well put together, puts other collections like these to shame,
