To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of White Ladder. Quotations at the end of "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" are taken from "Into The Mystic" and "Madam George" written by Van Morrison. All songs published by BMG Rights Mgmt (UK) Ltd except 'Say Hello Wave Goodbye' by Metropolis/Warner Bros. Music Ltd.
Fantastic album - happy to own it on vinyl. The pressing is a nice white colour. Gatefold feels good quality and glad it has proper printed inner sleeves. The sound isn’t the best quality, it is listenable and at times sounds perfect but the sound is distorted in some parts
I purchased a copy from Amazon in early 2021, and it feels like I have a different record compared to the ones initially described at release.
It seems that the initial press must have had quality control issues, which have been corrected in later copies.
My copy sounds really good, with no pops or crackles, good separation, and no distortion. The only issue with the sound is that the bass is a bit loud in the mix, but I have encountered much worse examples of this.
Got a factory sealed copy…skips during the outro of Please Forgive Me…haven’t tested the rest but gutted as this is my favorite song and clearly a manufacturer issue
I completely agree with Teamhosk : This sounds really great, very dynamic and spacious. Before playing the first time, I gave the records a good wet clean on my rcm. The records were really dirty. So maybe a tip for the complainers here : always clean your records !
This pressing is atrocious. The lyrics are extremely distorted. Literally a waste of time buying this. You'll play it once and never again. Shame, as I like the songs.
Ordered Jan 2024 from Amazon. Maybe got lucky, or this is indeed a repress; but sounds lovely, dead silent, no complaints at all! Tastefully laminated gatefold and inners, glad they finally put this out on vinyl!
Pressing error - Labels on side A/B are inverted, but not on C/D.
Well I guess I got lucky with my copy… or perhaps this is a repress… in any case, there are some very minor crackles between some tracks (not many) but otherwise warm, nice bass, good instrument separation and nice soundstage with no distortion anywhere. And as someone else here has pointed out, this album is mostly a home recording and therefore not audiophile reference material, but for all that it sounds very decent - absolutely worth the money for me, and definitely an improvement sonically on the original CD version.
Revisited this album after upgrading to a better table / cart. Previous table was a project debut carbon with acrylic platter and m2 ortofon blue. Definitely picked up sibilance and distortion.
New table is a Technics sl1200 mk2 with an AT OC9XML dual moving coil cartridge. No sibilance / hiss on the vocals or cymbals, voice was clean, bass was punchy, great separation, etc.
Still some cracks and pops, but I’m not sure if that’s the pressing or just a dirty record as I didn’t properly clean it before playing.
