Reviews
- I question this statement from the record label:
"this new edition of Avalon Sutra sounds better than the original release, which we discovered was flattened in mastering"
For some inexplicable reason, this "remaster" was absolutely botched. I thought it was maybe just my copy, but these issues are present on the digital Bandcamp release as well, so it seems to be an issue with the master itself. Some tracks are overdriven to the point of becoming audibly distorted, mainly on the peaks of the saxophone and piano. Additionally, just about every track's audio is riddled with repeating pops and clicks, which are difficult to ignore especially when listening with headphones. As for the label's statement regarding their discovery of the original release being flattened, after comparing the two releases side-by-side, the only reasonable conclusion I can surmise is that the aforementioned statement is blatantly false.
Stay away from this release, stick with the original 2004 version if you can.
