What an incredible record, both tunes are amazing & set a new standard in rolling beats & rhythms back when it came out, why people are paying insane money for average at best tunes when you can pick up killer 12"s like this for less than £5 baffles me!
Not entirely sure why this one is averaging out at a score below 4 on here (as I type this in '08). I guess it's impact isn't really evident to anyone who didn't pick it up at the time it was released.
It's not really a dancefloor record as such, but at the time this was released it was at the forefront of the new, more mature and sophisticated Jungle sound that would soon be referred to as 'intelligent' and as time passed, and the BPM increased, 'liquid'.
Both Fashion and Step up, whilst giving a firm nod to their 94 jungle roots, moved the sound and the scene far forwards, out of the realm of something to play to kids off their heads and into a sophisticated, more Jazz and Reggae influenced sound, rather than just a fat break and some flappy bass that happened to sample these genres.
Respect to Mr Size for the inspiration, and to Bryan G and JJ Frost for having the vision to push out music like this.
