First of all, the glowing praise:
This is as close to perfect as one can get. The music was all re-rendered just for the CD format (says remastered, but rendered again would be more accurate for electronic stuff) and slightly remixed in the process. No new instruments were added, but the stereo balance is all new now. The sound quality overall is A+, even though there are slight distortions on occasion (limitations of the acoustic piano and some of the bass samples, original release has those too...... yes, I checked). Aside from an early demo, only included as a bonus track on the B-Sides collection, ALL game music is now present, which means Heart of the Mountain, originally omitted everywhere, is finally not forgotten. It only took several releases to get THAT right.
And now, a rant about the only flaw there is, and it is a noticeable one (though fixable):
Some genius decided it would be a BRILLIANT idea to add some silence to Madeline and Theo. Because music tracks need silence at the end, to separate them from each other. Of course!
OF COURSE, said genius forgot that Madeline and Theo (track 1) was always supposed to flow seamlessly into Starjump (track 2). This means, to fix this stupid mistake, you, the listener, will have to manually remove the extra silence with Audacity.
Audacity may SEEM complicated for a first time user, but the basic functions really are simple. Just remember to import all CD tracks as 16bit 44,100hz (check preferences), and zoom in as far as possible, to leave the smallest millisecond of sound intact, erasing ONLY pure silence. Basic Audacity tools cut and combine CD quality tracks perfectly, without any quality loss, one just needs to spend some time with the program (anyone can do it).
(if you are responsible and reading this, don't worry: I am not too mad about this, seeing how Audacity exists)
P.S. Might want to also delete the extra silence between Chapter Complete - Ascending and Chapter Complete - Normal. This might take a little longer, since compared to the Madeline's Grab Bag version, Ascending has a few milliseconds of extra sound, making the short track end rather abruptly, like there is an artifact.
