Reviews
- Picked this up in a charity shop in Bath (England) a couple of weeks ago. Cost me £3 and looks unplayed. I knew all about Greg's esteem as a session player, but had never heard any solo stuff. I also had no idea Donald Fagen had written a song called Lazy Nina (and I'm a lifelong Dan/ Fagen nut) that appears here. Oh my God. The first time I played it, I sat on my sofa with every hair on my body standing on end. Imagine finding an unknown (to you) song by one of your fav artists ever and it being this good? It's a total belter. My find of the year.
- The standouts are the Yellow Magic Orchestra/MJ composition "Behind the mask". (This was also recorded by Eric Clapton/Phillingaines/Phil Collins in 1986 on Eric's "August" album.)
For me though, the real winner is the Donald Fagen-penned "Lazy Nina". One listen to this and you will immediately think of Steely Dan, although neither Fagen nor Becker played on it.
The vocals, lyrics, and Greg's funky as hell outro make this one highly addictive and hugely underrated.
