Reviews
- Edited 2 months agoIn my opinion, this is one of the best ambient albums of all time; truly beautiful and mesmerising music.
Sound quality on this pressing is excellent- nothing to fault here.
Pressing is fairly good, but not the best I’ve heard from Optimal unfortunately. Side one is dead-silent. Side two, on my copy, has a brief non-fill spot at the start of side 2 which is particularly jarring; also some pops and clicks but nothing drastic.
Overall, well-worth the purchase. It seems that there is some variance in pressing quality based on the reviews so you hopefully you will end up with a quiet copy! - It's simply unbelievable. To release such great music on such miserable vinyl is an insult to the artist. Especially as there is no digital version to download. I've bought this record for the third time now, washed it several times, but if the basic material and the workmanship defy any kind of quality control, you can do whatever you want. S**t remains s**t. Vinyl to get used to. I now send every second record back. But they can raise the prices. According to the motto: If you want poor quality, you should pay for it. Good quality only exists in the imagination. But my imagination suffices for the following scenario: The vinyl hype will come to its deserved end in the near future and then the moaning and groaning in the music heaven business will be great and the miserable employees will be sacked by the dozen. Every crisis harbours an opportunity for a new beginning. Hopefully with capable employees whose passion for vinyl is proverbial. I'm switching back to digital and CD, because what has been done to vinyl in the last 15 to 20 years is just another contribution to environmental pollution. Even in this industry, sustainability only looks good on paper. Au revoir le vinyle.
- Edited 3 years agoFinally pulled the trigger on this repress following the advice of a shop owner in Paris telling me there was no problem with this one.
Pros: record seemed cleaner than the 2017 press. It's flat too. It cames with a polylined sleeve this time. QC seems a bit better but i still have quite some clicks especially on A1. The overall sound seems pretty good to me even though i can't compare to an OG...
Cons: my copy isn't fully centered but it's not too bad. The cover comes in a flimsy cardboard this time (but, the 2017 had a tip-on one so, that was hard to beat). No attempt to recreate an OBI. Not the same insert as the OG. Ugly barcode on the artwork.
All in all, for the current price, it's not too bad.
