- I like the No Name side on this release more but B2 on the b-side is really good, very cool release from these 2!
- Edited 5 years agoIn my opinion the no name side should be played at 33 -8 and with the track called Era there is a nice spot in the middle to gear up to lets say 33 - 4
So it wil start as a psychedelic tekno track into exp. speedcore ( she does this always herself in a lot of tracks)
for me its a bit dissapointing, how she used the samples in these tracks .and the samples are also not that great.
but i still like the record, because the great changing paterns and layers she always uses , its unique . - Edited 7 years agoAbsolute Dog shit of a record, I bought it in 2009 just after it came out knowing it was shit from the sound clips,
On arrival I listened to the record once, cried, shuck my head and proceeded to scribe and mutilate the vinyl with the knife I'd opened the package with, after doing so I put the record back in its sleeve and fucked that up with knife to, I still own the piece of shit, it's in the deepest darkest record box I own..... at the back, out of sight.
I love these guys, I love them so much, but to of ever put this piece of shit out was a crime against hardcore, what a god awful ep, absolute disgusting and basically an assault on their fan base.
Bastards! - A lot of high scores here for this record,no doubt partly due to the fans of the sisters and the excitement of finally having them on a split 12".I surely can't be the in the minority of being a bit dissapointed with the result though? The reasons for this are different for each side of the record.
No Names tracks are,to put it bluntly, complete let-downs when everything else she has ever done is taken into consideration. The beats of A1 are great but the vocal samples are not subject to her usual brilliant spacey treatment which transforms her usual output into terrifying pieces of unique experimental hardcore. With A2 there are no real manipulated voices, instead a speedcore effort that doesnt seem to have any real punch. It's almost as if another artist has tried to produce like her and got 90% of the way there,or Poka herself didn't quite finish the tracks off.
With Mouse, the tracks are excellent but near impossible to mix with.B1 is an amazing effort, with a huge compressed kickdrum firing over some interesting layers of noises/effects.It gets pretty confusing at the halfway mark, but in typical Michelson fashion, they were never really producing with mixing in mind that I can tell and the track is the main reason I scored the record high (that plus almost sentimental reasons,heh).B2 is only brief in its use of a beat, the drums very quickly become nothing more than patterns of noise with added bass and the expected sci-fi backgrounds.Again, brilliant but probably the least use of all the tracks from a mixing perspective.
I think part of my dissapointment is with the track choices, stemming from the unreleased ones that have been sitting in the sisters myspace page for a long time.I was always hoping those would reach vinyl and when I first heard this release was coming was crossing my fingers those would be on this, particularly Pokas tracks. Not the case however and Michelson content has been nonexistant since. This review may not seem very positive, but the record is still worth getting if you're a fan like me as the Mouse tracks do the job nicely to have a listen to.
