Notes
6 tracks of electronic music, and a bonus CD-only mix
Hard ‘n Hollow is 15 minutes of precisely constructed electronic music. Each sound is exactly where it should be. The trope of “sculpted” electronic music has been played out, so let’s forget it, and this record isn’t about paring away anyway, it’s additive, constructive. There was a blank canvas and Justin filled it with paint-- Red’s, Orange’s, the colors of work, sometimes Yellow. Each sound permanently fixed in the moment it enters the mix. Static and Sweeping. I wish I could step inside Hard ‘n Hollow and explore it from within, touch it, watch it work. I can’t, but I can listen.
Justin made the music for the album, painted the cover for the album, and wrote the following words to accompany the album:
Meaning is a chord
in my nightmares
I hear an organ
thin rhythm
full of cosmic
something
I eat the ashes
in the distance
division
family friends
and suitors
snake charmers
stable
steed
and ridden
