Reviews
- Scuba deep music. The kind that grabs you in a place, and takes you out. For DJ use, it's also a supremely fun double set to work across the mixes as a way to tease, and get tension and build and the delivery going.
- I agree with everything said by previous reviewers. Excellent deep house with an ensemble cast of talented producers and musicians
- For me personally it's all about the Sky, Rain & Elemental mix. Those chords just hit differently and reach the depths of your soul. Ron Trent magic again.
- Edited 3 years agoOn one of my regular visits to the Music & Video Exchange in Camden London back in the late 90s (now sadly gone but Notting Hill and Greenwich stores are still going strong and well worth a visit), I asked the boys if anything good had come in lately. They gave me the knowing nod, reached under the counter and pulled this double pack out on white label with a look in their eye that said 'be careful, this is some serious deep shit - once you listen to it, there's no turning back - you will be joining the Deep-Side!' Thank god for that day and that classic vinyl encounter! I knew of Ron Trent before but not like this - own it, play it, enjoy it!
And just when you thought it was safe to get back in the deep water, a year later Urban Sound Gallery dropped another absolute bomb in the shape of 'Life 4 Living' featuring the magical voice if Monica Elam https://www.discogs.com/release/856-USG-Featuring-Monica-Elam-Life-4-Living
Two must have tracks for any serious deep house freaks - we know you're out there! - Dont really know what else to add that hasnt been already mentioned. In a time when most of the music being put out is unimpressive, boring, I know I can slip this in one of my sets, and get folks agitated, in a good way. The intro lulls you into a sense that this is gonna be a nice lightweight lil diddy; DBora's voice gently floating over the orchestration. And then the bass hits you upside the head, and things go from light and pleasing, to "damn, now I gots to get up and stomp my feet to this monster!". And, it is a monster.
- The original mix takes a while to build up but thats what makes this such a pleasure to listen to and a stunning warm-up/late night record for a DJ; D'bora Rivers spiritual vocals without pretension and Peven Everetts sweet muted trumpet solos just work so well together. The 'Cocoinstra' dub has a simple repetitive key riff that seems to pull you right in without thinking. Anyone who really appreciates finely crafted muscianship should grab a copy if you can find one. Timeless music!
- Another ABSOLUTE DEEP HOUSE CLASSIC & essential for any DJ looking for House music with Soul.
Production on this alone is exemplary with spine tingling lyrics by D'bora Rivers & synth work from Mr Nicholson & Ron Trent (who I believe done the Drum Programming).
I'm speechless about this record (well..almost!). It's just the NUTS!!! All the mixes are excellent & the trumpet solo on the COCOINSTRA mix by Peven Everett is amazing... Peeps You must own this record!!
