- The first piece here is another outstanding work by Chris Watson, and one of the first he’s released in some time. Taken from field recordings of a forest in Costa Rica it’s a typically fine work of recording and editing, and one of Watson’s most conventionally ‘musical’ pieces- with a clear structure to the arrival of each sound. It’s musique concrète in this sense but manages to retain the ecological integrity of the original recordings and the sense of place. The arrival of the Howler Monkeys is a highlight.
The second piece by Georgia Rogers starts with field recordings of Northern England, the focal sound being the patter of rain on metal. This shifts into drifting and low key electronic tones, drones and rumbles for the latter parts of the recording. The overall atmosphere is pleasantly eerie.
Overall, a fascinating and beautiful record.
