Reviews
- I had the "green/orange marble" limited edition, and it sounded like complete shit. Like worse than dollar bin records at Goodwill. This clear copy is a big improvement. The only noise in this copy is some pops, crackles, and static in the run-in groove on Side E and the first 15 seconds of Spinning My Wheels. Other that that, sounds really good.
- Had the color version at first and had to return it because it was so off center. A few weeks later I wanted the give this another try so I picked up the clear. Clear was way better, but did have to do a a wet cleaning.
Only issue is that the mastering is pretty dull, not horrible, but its type of thing that will make you go to the EQ and heavily tweak. The digital version I think is still better in that I think it captures things really well. This record just made me push my eq settings further than any other record I could think of in recent memory, left me wanting a little bit more even after all the eq effort. It’s like the record is on the edge of almost coming alive, but then it isn’t.
Musically it’s a great album from a great band. - Went with the clear version because the other versions seemed to have too many issues, be that sound related or even the colour not being right... With the clear, you can't go wrong it seems. Looks fantastic!
As for the sound, there is definitely surface noise/crackle, nothing unlistenable, but noticeably consistently there. When compared to a digital copy, the record is much quieter! The record is muddy by comparison, not having as much clarity or instrument separation. Others have mentioned flat, which is another good descriptor for it.
It's by no means a disaster of a record, but definitely a disappointment. Especially after how great Waterfall I's copy sounded! - Edited 4 years agoMine arrived CHIPPED! As in, part of the outer edge is MISSING! Broken off! I've never seen that. Not coincidentally, it has a defect on that spot that causes surface noise at that part of the vinyl for at least half of side 1, even after a deep cleaning. I'll try a replacement.
- My clear copy sounds pretty nice! The other thread seems to be losing their minds over some surface noise but nothing to really complain about here.
