My Pallas pressing sounded quite good until I reached Side D and then it went quickly downhill. The title track is completely unlistenable due to loud persistent scratching, pops, cracks and surface noise. America is a little better but still plenty of pops and cracks here and there. Very disappointed.

Have bought two copies of the clear and both have really bad distortion in the climax of Tell Me You Love Me. Is this the general consensus or do I maybe have an issue with my setup?

My clear vinyl copy sounds pretty great. There are a few pops and tics here and there, but not any more than any other good to great vinyl pressing. As far as the comments relating to brickwalling; I'm not at all convinced that the artist didn't intend for the dynamic range to be right in the area it winds up in. There are a number of spots I had to pull the volume down quite a few decibels because the bass drum would be vibrating the ceiling fixtures in my listening room, while other tracks were far less boomy and bassy. Again, I presume this was Sufjan's intention for the production from track to track. I would recommend this pressing to anyone who was interested in purchasing it on vinyl in the first place.

After reading the reviews on here, I was scared to open my copy. But lo and behold, my copy actually sounds and looks pretty great! Not only is it super crisp and clear, but hearing it on vinyl is quite an atmospheric experience. Such a shame that the Pallas pressing plant managed to screw up a number of copies here and there though ://

P.S. I can also vouch with what's been said about the packaging because it is indeed fantastic! Highly recommend this variant if you could get one without any QC issues.

just had to pop in to say what a FANTASTIC packaging this has, the sleeve is thick and hard as a box, the printed inner sleeves are also heavyweight cardboard, one arrived with a seam split unfortunately, but still, the material is super sturdy, the flattened edges on the records are a nice touch too! great job AKR 💜

Such mixed reviews BUT my copy is crystal clear (both in appearance and sound quality). LOVE it.

My girlfriend has brought this over to me to clean on a ultra sonic cleaner because of the background noise. It's a disgraceful pressing that cannot be cured. Whoever made this needs to be closed down. They are not fit to manufacture records. It's one of the worst new pressings i've ever heard in all my years of buying records.

Thank God my copy sounds amazing. The first time I haven't had issues with an Asthmatic Kitty pressing. Literally have no problems with mine. Luck of the draw. Whew.

I can not believe that this was pressed at Pallas Germany Diepholz. if so, this is by far the absolute worst LP they delivered out of this pressing plant. If this is now their quality control, we have lost one of the greatest pressing plants worldwide. I never had any issues with them. I have hundreds of Speakers Corner LPs and hundreds more from Pallas. Not sure, what happend here?

I returned the EU black vinyl as it had a lot of issues with surface noise and non-fill. I really like the album though so after reading some positive reviews on the clear vinyl I picked up a copy from Rough Trade today. It’s still not a great pressing, but it doesn’t suffer with non-fill like the black vinyl pressing. I wet cleaned it twice on a vacuum RCM and finally got it to a point where there was little surface noise on sides A & C. On side B, Die Happy still has issues so these must be inherent in the pressing. Side D had a significant number of loud pops throughout both tracks, however, by running over the spots with the stylus in two directions, I was able to clear most of it, pointing to it being down to a lot of debris stuck in the grooves. So, a good result overall but really, for a new pressing, should it involve this much work? Now I get why people who stream exclusively laugh at the vinyl crowd. I hope they manage to sort the issues with the EU pressing and hold the pressing plant accountable for poor QC.
