Do LPs in new batch still have paper/cardboard sleeves or did they switch to poly sleeves? I've bought an extra box today to have as a reserve in case any of my LPs will be damaged or wear out in future. Should I unseal it and replace all the inner sleeves with poly sleeves or should I keep it sealed?
Got my box from Amazon. I love how good it sounds. I’m assuming Sony caught wind of the botched initial pressings since it was unavailable for a few months and I’m so glad I waited to buy it. Ten out of ten.
One album in the set was damaged. Set was sealed so I assume damage happened at factory. Also every album had a lot of little pieces of cut paper in the sleeve and needed serious cleaning before playing. I returned that set and bought another one which seems to be fine. If you buy this set carefully check each album.
Discogs should remove the sales of individual titles as it throws off Lowest, Median and average prices.
That said this is an outstanding box set, in a day where everyone is doing more gimmicks, over loading with content that really isn't needed. Sade is letting their work speak for it self, keeping it simply elegant and well made. They had personally helped in the remastering of this set so it is what they wanted to present.
I was going to compare the titles with all my other records but as I started to play these they where so satisfying, nothing made me think I needed to check for an oddity. They where all dead quiet pressings, hearing nothing but music to get lost in. The other thing that really stood out to me is every title is balanced, like they recorded all these record in a year. Having album separations over decades, different technology, masterings, pressing work and quality is no longer present. I just can't wait for the new record that this box is designed to fit also. It should be out pretty soon and doing it so close to the box set I'm sure they will have the same team that will keep that balance they have going on.
Get this box before you can't at this very cheap price. Every masterings and pressings they put out always have gone up once OOP. When the new record comes out it's going to draw attention to the box witch will only push prices higher.
I can not believe how poor the pressings are on all six albums. Hard to enjoy the beautiful music and outstanding engineering anticipating the next set of pops and clicks. Sony should have done a better job.
Some shameless sellers are dividing the boxset up selling off each record individually for $50-80 bucks a piece. They are also sellling the box seprately without any records. Do not buy from these shameless greedy clowns that our obvuously trying to turn a profit on this box. You are better o ponying up the cash and buying the whole complete boxset new.
I lucked out and all six albums are just perfect. Soldier of Love is now listenable; I always hated the sound of the CD version. It's incredible to have all her albums on such high quality vinyl and audio and for such a reasonable price compared to buying mint originals. I never thought I'd see the day.
