Reviews
- The serial number DEMRECBOX48X is not always an indicator of a signed version, as my signed version does not contain the X.
- I have heard that this is going to be a series of a total of 4 Box Sets of Vinyl LPs. I bought this copy because it’s the limited edition of 750 copies that has a Signed print in it. I wish they had numbered these sets and if they are numbered, I haven’t seen it anywhere. The next set is suppose to come out sometime in the early part of 2021. I also purchased the Signed CD Box Set as well. I have a lot of Bob Mould autographed items from a few gig Posters, a Drum head and several other albums by both Bob Mould and Hüsker Dü as well. I also purchased a RSD Hüsker Dü picture sleeve 45 single that is signed and I have a few signed CDs. I got to meet him at the original Hammerjack’s in Baltimore MD when I was like 15 and he was great and he signed my copy of “Flip Your Wig” for me. This is when the band started to get to the point of some creative differences and I only got Bob to sign the album which ticked off Greg Norton, who has sadly passed away. Grant Hart wasn’t around at the time and he was off somewhere else but it was like it was yesterday.
Fast forward to when he released his autobiography and he made an appearance at Book People in Austin to do an Autograph session. I had already received a ARC or Advanced Readers Copy of the book through my husbands niece. She is a Toxicologist and a Pharmacist and an avid book reader. She has a lot of famous friends in the world of “Mystery Writers” and she goes to these conventions and gives talks about poisons, they often ask her for advice about their own books and liability for what they write. It’s also a connection to publishing companies. She knows I’m a huge fan of Bob Mould and she was able to get me a copy of the book that hasn’t been proofread to go to publish yet for my birthday. I had him sign the book and bought an actual copy that is also signed. I mentioned that I had met him in 1985 at Hammerjack’s and after I told him what happened like 30yrs at the time, he actually remembered that night because he got a real laugh that I wouldn’t let Greg Norton sign my album. I am just glad they patched up things and reconciled their relationship before the world lost Greg Norton. We have lost too many great musicians that still had plenty to offer to the fans way too young. Looking back, I should have let him sign the album now, but you do stupid stuff when you’re young.
I think this set is absolutely great as it is not as I expected it to be. It sounds really good and generally these splattered colored vinyl pressings are not the best sounding albums, but this set is the exception to the rule. I generally buy colored releases as collectibles and usually the translucent copies that are a solid color like red, blue or clear sound much better than the splattered or split colored vinyl pressings. I have a few of the RSD releases that sound okay, but they are either splattered colored or split colored. The clear is generally good, but I have a hard time telling where the songs start as you can see the dead space on the other side as well. I’ve also noticed that gold, like real gold and silver don’t sound very good on my ClearAudio turntable with the Maestro Ebony cartridge which itself cost me like $1,200.
Ironically, Black Sheets of rain is a favorite of mine and I don’t have it on vinyl , I just have never purchased it yet, but this version sounds extremely good and I will still probably try and get an Autographed copy of it, or a good pressing. This set is definitely a 10 as “bloodlemons” mentioned. I’m extremely anxious to see what the second set of these releases will offer up in the way of what material is used and how far back he goes from “Workbook” and if he ventures into the Hüsker Dü catalog. I think he has to as if this is going to be a 4 Box Set release, then it should. However, if it stays on track with the CD set, then it’s going to be only Bob Mould and that’s fine as well. I have all of the Hüsker Dü releases either on vinyl or on CD.
Buy a copy of this before they get too overpriced from third party sellers,
