Reviews
- Edited 3 years agoBrilliant turn of the decade soundtrack - unlike lots of revisionist memories - in 1991 Ecstasy as a drug was still in the underground and about to go LARGE but not without effecting some remarkable havoc on pop and indie music in the meantime. It really was still nod-and-a-wink time when EMF emerged from Cinderford and the Forest of Dean with a mash-up blend of samples, dance rhythms, street wear and attitude. I first caught them at an early university gig and had their twelves... A massively underrated band that had something new and interesting to say but in many ways got burnt out by the fast fashion that infected the music biz at that time. Along with contemporaries Jesus Jones and Happy Mondays who emerged before them, they straddled the indie / dance music divide that was later submerged by the mass market wave of the rave culture as it went mainstream. In hindsight this sound was the first flowering of an indie culture that was newly confident enough to look outside the old musically tribal tramlines and venture into colourful cross-overs never seen before. Schuberts Dip will always have a place in my heart having falling in love to its CD on repeat in my car...
Happy days touring the country with my skateboarding brothers and then wife to be....
Long Hot Summer days of travelling not running...
Dropped an old belter remix on my radio show this week for old times sake...
