Before I start this review, know that any oddly nitpicky concerns are from a place of love as this is one of my favorite games/franchises ever.

For months, I've been eagerly awaiting this. Anyone close to me knows this is my holy grail of wanted VGM vinyl and I've spoken nonstop about it. So has the wait been worth it? Let's find out!

First off, when I first saw the cover art, at first I was a little underwhelmed by it. It has grown on me however and one can recognize Drew Wise's great talent in this art. The back cover is simply breathtaking (although the ring is supposed to be found in a forest clearing, not in a open field but I digress). Looking over the accidental typo in the tracklisting, it's a brilliant piece. The record labels similarly are excellent. Props to Mr. Wise.

Included in the jacket are the two records in poly-lined sleeves and the art insert featuring a retrospective by Jeremy Parish (a good read), and on the other side is "archival artwork" which is an asset used in the original Japanese and CD releases (guess its technically "new" for the West?). The Blue within Blue (or Huepow variant as I'm calling it) looks really good for its simplicity, it actually does resemble Huepow quite abit (hence the nickname derp). The clear variant is pretty as well, fun to look at and see prisms cast across the surface.

Alright, the audio itself sounds pretty good! I don't hear any issues with the mastering, sounds like a good job. Music is emotional in its highs and lows to still being me to tears. Pressing wise, there is some noise, but it's nothing super bad, much much worse stuff out there. Tracks were re-sequenced for a more chronologic flow for this release. (Addendum, on second listen, my copy of the blue within blue variant actually sounds pretty noisy, could be just my copy though. Clear sounds much less noisy.)

The cons? There's a few big ones. First off. It's a damn travesty that this was released with almost half of the soundtrack missing, practically insulting even. I'm surprised that "Quiet Choir" made the cut but not "Cursed Pamela"? Not even "Continue"?? What?! How?!? I was sure this release would have most of the soundtrack, and it would...if the source audio was the CD. Surely that would make sense to fit most of the soundtrack on 2xLP right? Apparently not. Either Namco only had, forced them or STS opted for the iTunes masters and thus those were used. I'm not sure if the CD masters were just lost or whatnot but if those were used, we would have had almost all the songs (CD version would have completely fit on 3xLP, iTunes would be at least 5.).

Also, kinda surprised and saddened that this didn't come in a gatefold as this game deserved it but for whatever reason, a wide jacket was decided on.

Overall, obviously I'm going to recommend this. The game's soundtrack (and the game itself) should be required listening (viewing) for every music fan. I'm excited to see if more variants of this are released, but I have one wish. Ship to Shore, please please PLEASE consider releasing the complete unabridged soundtrack. I'm just one crazy fan, but there is a whole fanbase who I'm sure are willing to doubledip for a deluxe treatment, and there are other great tracks that NEED to be showcased! Consider a nice big box set, I know there's a big group of people who I'm sure will be happy to pay such a price for a priceless masterpiece. No matter what, thank you Ship to Shore for bringing hope back to a fanbase that has been going through rough patches for over a decade. Thank you for bringing back our Klonoa. Reprudu!

    [ADDENDUM 03/06/21]

I've gotten a replacement copy and I've noted that the 2nd record (Side C/D) seems to have abit more noise (especially Side C) and seems to slip on my platter more then then Record 1 (A/B), and this is across all the copies I've opened, including the clear variant. This would be an incredible coincidence, so I'm going to assume more people are going to experience this. So, heads up I guess.
