- This is nothing short of a masterpiece, the kind of album that comes along once in a generation in my opinion.tear jerkingly beautiful, uplifting, soulful.its so good that even though the vinyl doesn't come with a download I'm going to seek it out and pay for it (again).
- Geez, this really does belong in my collection. What a gem. Unfortunately I can't justify dropping 35euro on a record.. that price is almost offensive nowadays. Sure sure, vinyl master race and all, but I'll have to enjoy the WAV for now until the price drops to a respectable amount.
- Breathtaking album that stands up with ease with the first two. My only criticism is the state of the pressings and the fact that they are filthy. After two full enzyme based cleaning, no difference. Not a hope in hell to make these records sound new. Another case of great album pressed by Captain Dusty Statichands...
- Damn. Who knew we would see not one, but two albums from The Avalanches in the span of a few years? It seemed like ages ago when a follow up wasn't even possible, just rumors and here we are, in the midst of a pandemic, with the third album from the group. One thing The Avalanches are good at is lush arrangements in their production and effective utilization of sampling. If you listen to their extensive DJ mixes (Some People and the BBC Essential are easily some wild shit), it all comes into play here. Wildflower was an acid trip, We Will Always Love You takes us to space. The harmonies, the beats, everything about this record is awesome and a nice addition to an incredibly tough year. Solid shit.
- Just bought a copy (kelly/coke bottle green) but not played it at time of writing. Am I the only one who is disappointed with the format overload with this LP ? In the UK there are four different vinyl versions, none of them with a download card as far as I'm aware. I'd have thought The Avalanches more than most would be able to sell records on the strength of their musical pedigree. Add into the mix the Newbury Comics and Vinyl Me, Please pressings and that's six vinyl variants so far. The initial pressings of their previous two LPs were standard black, I don't remember feeling any disappointment upon listening to them, quite the opposite. Yes, I'm aware of the old phrase "nobody's forcing you to buy it" but when does a new LP come out these days without a coloured option ? As far as the coke bottle/kelly green pressing being an "indies only" issue, there were copies for sale in the Manchester branch of Fopp today. In a past life I suppose it was an independent retailer but not since it was bought by HMV. Am I overthinking all this ?
