In the 70s, the suite was the typical song format for progressive bands. An extended piece characterized by different movements bound together that could express all musicians overflowing creativity: an entire LP side occupied by it, as an ambitious rock symphony that broke song structure as known since then. In the 90s Dream Theater gave new life to this musical idea. A Change of Seasons - composed at the beginning of the 90s, but recorded and published in 1995 due to label pressure - is a monumental opus in seven acts. One of the finest moments in Dream Theater career for emotive intensity and melodic creativity, a masterpiece that combine metal heaviness with progressive refinement. Interesting (but not memorable) cover versions of classic songs complete the album, but the most memorable classic is the suite itself.
