this is a striking recording-- so spare and stark even. there's great presence and the feel of the room. la farge is an ironic, earnest, playful songwriter, storyteller, and performer. there's something curious and engimatic about the whole record. if you like spare folk about people and social issues, this one might be for you. clearly, this record was a big influence on cash putting out "bitter tears" a year later, which covers multiple tracks from this one. both records are beautiful offerings..
