- People have been waiting 28 years for a vinyl release of this, the second greatest ambient album of the 1990s (bested only by Biosphere - Substrata.) This is momentous moment for ambient fans and vinyl junkies.
- You don't find this album, it finds you. It will define a monumental life moment. It will defy belief. It will defy explanation. It will define genius. It is Woob 1194.
A must to make your life complete. Thank you Mr Frankland. - Edited 4 years agoYES - believe the hype!
1994 was somehow THE creative year for the ambientdub genre. this release is stands for a perfect example, you will never regret if you can get a copy of it. intelligently made, this record belongs since 1994 to my all time faves, as woob 4495 does, too. there a several other woob-tracks on other em!t releases, that are worth on its own - the whole em!t series is great. - It is hard, if not impossible, to decide whether this or Gas0095 is my favorite em:t release.
While Gas0095 has more beat-driven technoid power, Woob1194 makes better use of the em:t-typicall 3D sound imaging system: Woob1194 truly is spatially expanded music!
It is a very original work which immediately draws the listener's attention to it and then carries the listener away into an unforgettable odyssee through its mellow and sinister beauty, its majestetic moments of silence, its deep beats and powerfull basslines, bird sounds and weird horror movie samples. A landmark in the history of ambient music.
This CD is listed in the music library on the Erowid-Web site as an album for those with interests in spirituality, philosophy, entheogens and drugs. And it is somewhat addictive.
Truly unique. Any Connaisseur of electronic music should at least know it, while buying it has become a quite costly matter these days. - Edited 18 years agoPaul Frankland alias Woob is a music genius. Especially the opener "on earth" takes the listener on an unforgettable journey. The music has a very cinematographic feel, partly due to the use of exquisite samples (taken from the movie "Ashik Kerib", from "Quantum Leap" and from Star Trek's "The Mark Of Gideon"). Every time I listen to this album, I feel like transported again to some unknown realms and it never gets boring, even after years of listening. This release is my favourite among the em:t series and like all other em:t recordings, it has been processed through the Roland Sound Space 3-D system that gives the music more depth and colour. This is by far the most intrigating, thrilling, fascinating and inspiring ambient work I know.
- Edited 19 years agoBelieve the hype. This album is over ten years old, and it still puts modern-day "chill-out" music to shame. Back in the day, I was a young teenager listening to New Age and World Music, and I feel like there's bits and pieces of everything I've heard from then until now on this one CD. From the moment the first track opens with a deft tabla line, Woob weaves a dense soundscape with far Eastern samples, muffled snippets of dialogue, and expertly crafted peaks and valleys of music. Pitched somewhere between New Age, early minimalism, and back-room rave, this is one of the most engrossing, most adept fusions I've ever heard. A worthwhile find at any cost!
- This album has more atmosphere than Jupiter. Very chilled but with the slightest touch of menace. Phenomenal 3d sound imaging will have you pinching the air trying to pluck out the individual sounds. Might be a little too much along the lines of 'World musie' for some tastes but I love it.
