These are every bit as good as the Blue Note Tone Poet Series.
Packaging and Pressing Quality is outstanding. 🤓

Great music, slightly hot remaster, my copy is not perfectly flat. Happy to have a copy though.

Hi VC, Can anyone confirm if this is an AAA vinyl release. Analog cut and mastering from the original tape?

Got the latest repress. This is a great album. My only reference is an old CD version which i think is AAD and sounds wonderful. This is well pressed, flat and quiet and sounds good but its nothing special either in the audio dept. With hindsight here is one where said CD would serve me just fine for life, yet the packaging, notes and ritual as ever still offer that experience from records that we crave!

Essential album for a jazz fan. All instruments are very clear

Vinyl center hole punch too small, hassle to carefully take record off platter. My first 2 copies had a slight edge wear which sucks!

Record played flawlessly and dynamic. Brownie sounds fantastic, brush work from Roach sublime, Land is superb, Morrow is melodic and Powell comping and improvisation is marvelous.

Its about time I got around to this one. I guess its only fair to wait over a year for a repress when these are of such high quality.
I already have the album in Original first press form and as such Ive been most excited to compare these.
Especially since I heard back when this came out that some deemed the AS version inferior to other digital options presumably taken from the tapes in the 90s before the Universal fire. Could this mean a lower generation tape was used and could this give the OG a reasonable shot at beating out the reissue series?
                  In short, no.
Its quite apparent right away that the reissue is much freer in the sound spectrum. Unlike the original the bass has not left the room and simultaneously the highs are also louder yet lusher and less harsh than the OGs.
The balance of performances is better on Ryans cut and as such it also captures the room ambiance a bit more. In a direct comparison the YMG36037A original cut almost sounds like listening through an FM radio. Even if the sourcing was not the very first tape it did not seem to matter in this shootout as long as the levels are matched.
Not to mention the poor pressing and sorry state of most covers that exist today, the reissue wins on all counts.

A little more conspicuous than my '82 Japanese press, but with more heft (the Japanese press is fantastic). Nice to hear Roach's drums thundering here. Harold Land should have received more dap for this session; he nearly mirrors the brilliant Brown.
