Reviews
- Edited 7 days agoBeing a fan of the first 5 10cc albums and Consequences by Creme and Godley ( correct order I believe on that first triple album if I'm not mistaken, yours Dr S Strange) I have just bought this 12 track expanded version after reading reviews on Sea of Tranquility. I always loved KG 's voice anyway and loved his short but very sweet video appearance during the recent 10cc tours so I thought let's give it a try?
Well what can I say, after just my initial play I am very pleased and we have amazing music provided by a host of 12 external sources and a very wonderful mixing of said music around words and tunes from Mr Godley.
All I can say is that when compared to the very trite, weak and feeble sounding "Personal Shopper" by Steven Wilson this is how to sing properly. This is progressive music by a 74 year old ex drummer, and as with Scott Walker on his last five albums, it seems to mature with ever increasing age! Not that quality and age should mean anything but the pop and rock world seem to be youth obsessed.
What a fantastic set of songs, obviously far too soon to give further details but I'm sure they will grow each time I replay just as Gentle Giant songs tend to do.
Just shows you that important music can come from any direction at any age as long as the impetus is genuine and authentic. Unlike The Future Bites this is genuinely progressive music with a very very good vocalist and excellent lyrics if you take the time to read the enclosed booklet. Might need some strong lens in your reading glasses for people of a certain age, I am 58 ?!?
Very recommended to people with an open enquiring musical taste.
Shame it took so long for this solo work to come out. Any chance of live performances once lockdown is ended ?
