At a time when interest in 90s melodic IDM/ambient techno is at an all-time high, this extensive compilation is one of the best I've come across. Clocking in at over 150 minutes, many of the era's greats are represented (Global Communication/Reload, I.F., Funckarma, Black Dog, Seefeel, Autechre, Polygon Window, and Beaumont Hannant to name a few obvious choices), along with some lesser-knowns to keep things fresh. Tracks range from the early 90s to the early 2000s, so there's a nice spread in sound and style. The compilers' intentional focus on emotion and melody, along with the indie influence of acts like Slowdive and Spiritualized, gives the compilation a great deal of depth. Some tracks will be immediately familiar to fans of the style, but blended with the more obscure works, this compilation serves as a welcome and well-curated two and a half hour-long journey. I’m jealous of anyone who gets to use this as their entry point into the genre!
