- I can't understand the reason why the bonus tracks for the download version are not included in the vinyl version, there was enough room left.
This is such a great meeting of Archie & Jason, deep and spiritual. - Strong release by Shepp and Moran, definitely worth the time and money for anyone interested in this kind of intimate, but smart, duo and vocal jazz. The sound of my copy is crystal clear and has very good dynamics, although highs and upper mids may be a little overemphasized for some (esp. on the first track, but not so much later).
The singing is quite deep and strong, and the voice, is recorded deep and dark as it should be. Some tracks are truly deep (Go Down Moses), although the sax is always quite free and versatile as per Shepp's typical play of the later years.
My only (minor) complaint is that the record is laid out over 4 sides, which kind of breaks the charm of the whole record, so I guess I'll probably buy the CD as well. The release is available on Qobuz (with 5 bonus tracks), but it's quite evident that the vinyl release sounds much better, and fuller, than the streaming files.
However, that version suggests that the record could have been mastered and cut with at least one more track per side, which would have made it a lot more pleasant to play (or alternatively, it could have been mastered @ 45rpm).
Cool and quite classy release, given the fact that this is an independent release, 7/10 (or maybe 7.5) in my book. - I have big problems with this pressing, awful noise and quiet sound.
Real shame cause this album is so good.
