- Edited 4 months agoProbably one of the deepest and heaviest roots tunes ever!
Can anyone recommend anything else on par with this one? Thanks! - Edited 7 years agoPrefer the A over B, moar ROOTSy but both are top tracks and should be purchased on sight. Not sure if it's a re-issue but can be grabbed over at sounds of the universe dot com. Will let you know how it sounds once here.
Sounds sublime and it's a loud pressing too. - Edited 11 years agoI thought I'd chip in, to say both sides of this record are excellent. The Chosen Brother's joint sounds like it'd be perfectly at home at Channel One, Aba Shanti or another of the other London-based dub reggae rigs... heavy, heavy reggae for deep relaxation. The Rhythm & Sound cut, on the other hand, is supremely understated, almost clipped-sounding, but it has a lovely progression. It's the tune I usually play to friends wanting to know what the Rhythm & Sound thing is about. I love this record.
- When forced into naming the greatest tune of all time, I currently opt for Rhythm and Sound's Mango Drive.
One needs a certain degree of patience only obtained from listening to countless hours of dub techno to realise the true beauty of this masterpiece.
In fact, it's taken me up to ten years to get what I think this song is about and I've been listening to electronic music since the early 1990s.
As with most epics, you need the vinyl version, a set of great speakers and the lights off. Let the bass put you into the Basic Channel trance we're all so use to, and get ready for those chords.
Yes, the marvellous chords that float away in the distance. That moment at around three minutes when they finally kick in epitomizes why I fell in love with electronic music in the first place.
You don't need any drugs or booze to appreciate this. Just buy two versions on vinyl and lock yourself away for a few days / years.
