Show All 12 Reviews- Not a bad set at the current price of around £21,glad I didn't pay full price though.
Also why didn't they put the red vinyl edition in the box? - Edited 11 days agoSo according to nightporter.co.uk, the Budokan show was 16/03/80 which is where the "Live in Japan" EP came from. The show on the 27th was apparently at Ibaraki Prefecture Cultural Hall. Is the dodgy bootleg in this set from Budokan or Ibaraki? SO, is the venue OR the date correct? And if the dodgy bootleg is Budokan, are the Live in Tokyo EP tracks the same recording as that from the bootleg?
- I was intrigued by the notes here that say All Tomorrow’s Parties is spelt incorrectly but then checked all of the group’s listings of the song and they did indeed leave out the possessive. But this set is trying to correct the mistake isn’t it and align the title with the original song’s punctuation? Or am I missing something deeper in Sylvian’s intent here? And yes, the vinyl pressing is hardly setting the world alight is it?
- Have to agree with others on the flat sounding of the LP and the Budokan recording is a painful listen. CDs 1 and 2 are tremendous though and with the glossy packaging make up for it.
- The sound quality of the live set is very disappointing and the LP pressing isn't clean, with quite a few pops & crackles.
- The inner quality of the boxed set is poor . the album haven't been cut good left side is smaller than the richt side and was not good placed in the box ,poor
waiting for a better one , the shop send me
i have payed 35 euro is this why its so poor - Best to get the 1st pressing of Quiet Life on Hansa and pick up the "Live in Tokyo" LP.
Most of the box content is rehashed filler and pictures.
Box sets for the most part are a marketing tools to make some $$$ after the artist is long gone.
RIP Mick Karn - The Japanese 7" version on disc 2 is not actually the proper edit / mix (as on VIP-2797). It is one of the rejected alternate edits from 1979 or 1980. The two are the same length, it is likely that the wrong tape has been used for this box set. Not the end of the world, it is previously unreleased.
- Disappointed with the flat sounding vinyl. My 1980 pressing https://www.discogs.com/Japan-Quiet-Life/release/785214 is far clearer with better dynamics.
- The inner quality of the boxed set seems a little poor to me. All small things but edges of the sleeves haven't been cut well, the Live at the Budokan CD was rattling around in the box whilst still sealed and unopened, that same CD has strange marks around the edge (almost looks like burns). All just feels a little cheaply done.
