Reviews
- after extensive research it appears that the first press 2007 mastered and cut by stan ricker
may or may not have the round rti sticker and furthermore there are pictures of the 2015 reissue
cover floating around with round rti stickers on them even though the reissues are not pressed by rti -wtf right ! - The oldest review is from 2017, did Discogs deleat the older, original reviews, and if so, why???
With these newer reviews, who knows if they are reviewing the 2015 digital reissues and not the Stan Ricker release of 2007.
- Edited one month agoThere's something about Zeppelin on vinyl, I don't know what it is. I started buying the vinyl albums in late 1989, I think II was my first and after listening to Queen since early 1985 it was right up my street. I must confess, I did buy Now & Zen by Robert Plant early in 1989 and Led Zeppelin was the next logical step for me to take. I still have all the Zeppelin albums I bought between October 1989 and mid 1990. I bought some on CD but they never really did it for me as the vinyl had the real magic.
Remasters came along in late 1990 and I did eventually buy the 4 CD box in March 1991 and I was lucky enough to get a US pressing of the 6 LP box around 20 years ago. Then came mothership and I ran out and bought that and The Song Remains The Same vinyl box around the same time. Now I'm going to grab Complete BBC Sessions and How The West Was Won vinyl box sets as fast as I can!
Mothership is a fine box with very good audio and even though I have this US/EU pressing which is made in USA my inner sleeves are white paper! - I bought this on release and to be honest hated the sound quality from it. It was flat, dull and pretty well unlistenable. Recently I decided to sell it but thought I’ll have it cleaned properly first. Ultrasonic followed by vacuum RCM. The difference is night and day. It is sensational. Funnily enough it’s going nowhere now.
- Sound quality is superb. I bought mine in Nov 2021 sealed. The sleeves leached out a pink powder that was all over the discs. I cleaned them twice in a VPI and I have some crackling on some of the disks. I saw a video on YouTube about this very issue and the damage the original sleeves cause to the discs.
- If anyone has a spare John Paul Jones record to go in this set could you contact me please. Happy to take the inner sleeve for it too, but I only need the record as somehow I’ve acquired a copy of the box set with this record missing!
- I agree with all the comments. This box is great. Well done. Very happy. Sound is great. I think the sound is better than the recent reissues.
- Edited 4 years agoDefinitely the best overview of the band’s career. Great mastering and packaging throughout.
- The copy I have is amazing. The remastering on this fixes a few issues that the original releases have in my opinion. I got this today and listened to all four records on my mid range Technics turntable through a Pioneer receiver with Polk Audio speakers. I may have heard one pop the entire time. The lows and highs are more balanced, and also noticed the left to right is balanced better than the originals. I didn't hear any surface noise between recordings. It was truly the best I have ever heard these songs. Everything about this box set is cool. Really digging the artwork.
