This should be a mandatory purchase for any laid back mellow jazz fan. Sound quality is like you're in the studio. It's not exactly jazz, more like a double album of ambient vibes.

It is worth noting that the track C2, "Ay, Amor" does not appear to be a live track. However, the closing track, "Prayer", was recorded live. Unless somebody wants to correct me on this? It seems odd that the official track listing, everywhere I've seen it, gets this wrong.

This is an incredible modern jazz banger; and the sound quality is astounding. This is one of my favorite TP releases.

Tone Poet treatment or not, this isn't garnering any awards. It's not a bad record and I am glad I purchased it but its shining moments are sparse and, usually originate from Bill Frissell. It still puzzles me that this would be the choice for the Tone Poet treatment for a new project.

Wonderful sounding release. The musicianship is, of course, exceptional. But the sonics also match the performances. Maintaining Tone Poet standards for sure.

Most Blue Note Records Tone Poets I’ve owned feature wonderful contemporary mastering from original analog tapes that are old enough to be eligible for senior citizen status. Each Tone Poet contains stellar sound and glossy photo packed sleeves persevering vinyl pressing. Tone Poets don’t cling to the sound picture of Rudy Van Gelder, or studio effects from the past, instead the actual performance is the focus, which is what defines these contemporary AAA pressings from the original RVG pressings. The end result is a record that is as close to the feeling of the unfiltered recorded performance that we may ever here. So what happens when this kind of care, know how and art are used in the recording, mastering and pressing of a 21st century performance such as this Tone Poet title by Charles Lloyd & the Marvels? The result for me is a delicious and beautiful 3D performance at any volume. Charles Lloyd & the Marvels have created a truly enjoyable classic collection which I feel is a must have, but the fact that their work is captured and presented in an immersive audio recording using the Tone Poetry of Blue Note Records elevates this album as fantastic listening experience and is a brilliant treasure.
