On my copy, the spine of the sleeve is very misaligned and is almost 70% on the back of the record. You can hardly see the text when looking straight from the side.

Audio quality is pretty good, no complaints.

Going to put my two cents in and say that my copy is pretty crackly even after a thorough cleaning and playing. Pretty disappointed when all is said and done. Not sure if it's due to the marbling effect or if it is simply a crackly master that wasn't properly listened to.

As for the music itself, it holds a place in my heart but it's perhaps less endearing than his more famous Ys or Streets of Rage soundtracks. One nitpick is with the track lengths, there are natural places to end the tracks but Wayo lets the music loop once more whilst fading out. It's odd. Would have been much better to cut the music where it naturally stops instead of letting the music start up again only to fade it out.

Kudos to Wayo Records for having the license to release the soundtrack to one of Quintet's beloved gaming classics. The years may've faded Quintet into history, but those who are familiar with their works still cling to its memory, so it's a blessing that this bone's thrown at them. I'm aware that the nostalgia of the game's music called out to me more than actually enjoying the music on its own; I can think of other Yuzo Koshiro's compositions that I can readily play on repeat than this. It was nice to revisit "Birth of the People" and "Fillmore", the latter of which unwittingly gave me Castlevania vibes, but I couldn't easily get attached to most of the music. Fans of the game and its original soundtrack would not be disappointed with the package.

The inclusion of the game's Symphonic Suite, honestly, is what really draw me into this album's purchase. I've been listening to the ripped MP3s of the Symphonic Suite from 1991 for as long as I could remember, and it's the orchestra arrangements of the game's music that I could remember most fondly. It's a blessing to have the suite on a physical copy, even if it's from a most recent symphonic arrangement and the sections are different. No live composition is ever the same. The unfortunate downside to the suite comes from its mixing: it's not well uniformed. It's audible at the very least, and the brass and percussion instruments are felt, but the volume on the majority of the suite come across as thin. The quieter segments come across as muddled. One workaround to this somewhat underwhelming mix is to increase the volume and maybe adjust the equalizer, but to go that far for a single album doesn't sit well with me.

It might be perceived as a nebulous complain, but I listen to the suite, surmising it wanting to be loud but just couldn't get there. That alone doesn't blemish the album entirely. The pressing on both discs are more than acceptable, having both versions of the soundtrack enriches the package, and the comments from Ichihara and Haneda were lovely in how Koshiro shaped them to make this suite in the booklet. And yet as someone who enjoyed the 1991 suite, and paid ~$60 to hear a tinny-mixed 2018 suite, I take away from this album being a bit underwhelmed.
