Reviews
- LTJ Bukem is a legend, although I think the tracks on this CD are fairly short compared to his older standards.
- Anybody who's into drum & bass should be familiar and heard of Bukem. This guy has produced the best intelligent d&b on this planet and I've never heard anything less of perfect from him. This album is a great example of a professional delivering his selection and mixture of tunes which he likes and hopes others will like too and if ya don't like them then you aren't human or come from this earth. Beautiful drum & bass tunes mixed together by the Mr. Kipling of drum & bass which is LTJ Bukem.. 10/10.
- I'd like to know if LTJ is planning to drop any of these on us in 12" in the near future. Some great shit, but hardly any of it is available.
- I've tried quite a few times to get into drum 'n' bass with little success. However, upon listening to this CD I was finally swayed and began to understand what people see in the genre.
Each track on this CD is a layered gem, tying jazzy and dubby elements with faint vocal snippets to form coherent, catchy tunes. The mixing is superb, with each transition revealing minute percussive variations aided by subtle fades.
Even a those completely ignorant of DnB know of LTJ Bukem and his 20 year career, and his experience seems fairly evident to me in this CD. There are no wild variations between the tracks or particularly special moments, but this mix works as a whole in a way that very few DJs are able to achieve. The flow is superb and the mood well-maintained.
I'd recommend this CD for experience listeners already acquainted with the genre (several of my more experienced friends enjoyed it), as well as those looking for a painless entry to the scene.
My favourite track is number 8. The guitar chords are haunting and happy at the same time.
