Reviews
- Reminds me of summer holidays when I was still in education and raving all weekend without a care in the world... good times!
- Edited 12 months agoThis release has 2 killer anthems: The "vix-vapo", and the "move my body" tracks, which are different genre each.
Vix-vapo is the original mix of Active-8 and it is Belgian techno style 1991, with huge Belgian stabs, tribal techno rhythm, acidic lines, and all the rest Belgian elements, which makes it probably the hardest of all Altern8 tracks along with "Frequency", and also the most stellar production out of their whole discography. It is one of my favorites oldskool techno rave tracks ever.
From the other hand, "move my body" is the definition of early UK hardcore style, very similar to XL recordings tracks around the time by SL2, Liquid, Nu-Matic etc.... It has those early hardcore breaks, combined with insane mentasm-hoovers, along with all the dark samples of the earlier Altern8 house track with the same name. This is probably my fav tune of this EP.
Both these 2 tracks are some of the finest oldskool rave tunes ever made, and favorites of mine since the early days.
Unfortunately the other 2 tracks of this E.P, fell in short in quality in comparison.
"Active 8 (Hardcore Holocaust) mix" is the most famous track of this Ep, a great production and tune but somehow it sounds too cheesy and childish, something like "sesame's treet". Don't get me wrong, i like it very much, but it doesnt have the power and energy of the 2 forementioned tracks.
Finally "Re-indulge" is the most early sounding of this quartet, something like from 1990, very minimal and repetitive oldskool tune, Detroit influenced, but with nice piano sample from the "indulge" and odd vocal sample, combined with slow amen breakbeats. Still a nice classic Altern8 track, but it is probably the weakest of this EP.
My ratings for these tracks:
A1 Active-8.....................(7/10)
A2 Vix-Vapo..................(10/10)
B1 Move my body.......(10/10)
B2 Re-indulge............... (6/10) - Coming out of Shelley's that night and being greeted by Altern 8 in the car park ......top track top times top club ....... Altern 8 Classic.
- Edited 4 years ago"Activ 8" was a big hardcore tune with crossover success as Altern 8 saw with a lot of there releases, its am packed full of samples as you can see from the notes, that are worked to great effect to create a monster of a tune, with plenty of mixes to chose from ! Even with a cheeky "NHS Isol 8" Remix. But there's another cracking track on this 12" "Indulge" reminds me more of their previous releases under Nexus 21, packed full of samples but has a very different vibe. Heavily influenced by Neil Howard's "Indulge" especially as is samples the piano giving it a similar feel, still sounds great & worth a listen.
- Is the Vocal Sample Taken From Anghelus project - Come On A Track Dj Welly Used To Play Back In 1990 Or Is The Sample The Peech Boys - Don't Make Me Wait, As It's Very Close Same Style Saying And Sample, Also 2 Other Very Famous Italo Samples Used On Big Tracks One Was - Let The Whole World Know, And The Other Was - Were On The Move !
- internet info.
Whose voice says “Top one, nice one, get sorted?”
Top one, nice one, get sorted was by the record label boss’s daughter who was three years old at the time, the label dubbed her Mc Crazy Claire and we even had magazines asking if she was recording more material.
