Show All 103 Reviews- My copy arrived today. Copy looks clean. Sounds really amazing, a lively and analog sound.
Unfortunately side A has lots of non-fill on all tracks and the LP is not flat. I will ask for a replacement. - Edited one month agoMoanin` - Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers:

This could well be the best Blakey album I own on all fronts, you`ve got clarity, texture, separation & dynamics in bucket loads.
180g perfectly flat noise free vinyl mastered in AAA from the OG tapes by KPG - PERFECT!
Highly recommended five stars.

All my vinyl records are cleaned on a "Project VC-S MK II Record Cleaner" vacuum record cleaning machine. - Edited 2 months agoI have a rather decent early Uk reissue already but after reading all the good reviews I picked up a new copy. Upon some quick comparison I think this new copy sounds bit more dynamic and “fresh”, sound stage is bit wider too. Still tiny bit of metallic or “digital sounding”, bass could be bit more weighty too, but overall KG did a great job prolong the freshness of this classic album.
- This is my first acquisition from the Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series. I can not compare it to other releases of this same recording but this record sounds exceptionally good. Loads of detail and presence—you really feel connected to the sessions.
- This pressing kicks significant ass and lives up to the sky high Kevin Gray standard. Like many, the only downside was some light surface scratches due to crap factory quality control. Thankfully zero affect on playback on my copy, pristine playback.
- Amazing bang for your buck pressing here, don't have the music matters versions, but this sounds really good for around £25
- This is an absolutely incredible reissue for the price. Lower-cost sleeve in tight shrink, but perfectly flat black wax inside. Low, low noise floor – nearly dead silent. Kevin Gray did a great job with the master. This is a great primary copy for most collectors, especially those without the budget to spend many times the cost of this pressing for a Music Matters or Analogue Productions copy.
For those noting the distortion on the piano on A1, that clipping distortion is present on the master tapes and all versions of this release – the result of an enthusiastic Bobby Timmons playing his signature tune. It's the kind of quirk that, IMHO, makes Van Gelder's recordings so authentic. - Anyone else experience distortion during the piano smashes towards the end of track 1? Is this inherent to the recording or did I just get a bad copy?
