The best REISSUE of Maiden Voyage available. Cut from the original stereo masters by Bernie Grundman on his all-tube system. A significant improvement over KPG's typical miserable mastering choices.

While I’ve certainly known Headhuntersm, “Rockit,” and “Watermelon Man” for a long time, I’m relatively new to Herbie Hancock. This box set truly tells a discernible “Story,” and it sounds fantastic - clear, great soundstage, deep. Even the digitally-recorded material rings out beautifully on vinyl. I’m so glad I found this, months after it was allegedly sold out. Get it!

I’m so glad I bought this. It’s just perfect! I’m learning a lot about Herbie, having owned just two of his records prior to this set. The quality of this box set is beyond imagination. They all sound so wonderful.

Excellent in every way. I regret they couldn't include one more album and do empyrean Isles in addition to Maiden voyage. That companion album is really necessary to dissect his tenure at blue note. Of the two, they are both essential, but empyrean Isles is more adventurous and ground breaking as a post bop & concept album.

Is as essential to this discography as speak no evil should have been to the blue note story. That being said, schizophrenia was a great choice.

Looking for a jacket for the piano and 1+1. Please get in touch if you've got one.

Nice box overall, a variety of authenticity issues with the reproduction jackets but overall an excellent set. Very happy with the pressings, *except* for Side A of the Piano, which on my copy has visible and audible pressing defects causing loud distortion making Side A unlistenable. Have contacted VMP for a hopeful replacement disc.

I wonder why there is the Verve logo on V.S.O.P. The Quintet - Live Under The Sky?

Have you all seen what a high quality pressing of Maiden Voyage, alone, goes for on Discogs? Buy this if you’re at all on the fence about it. This set is first-rate, all-around. The podcasts are also a nice touch. I enjoy them, and learn from them.

I also have the Blue Note, Stax, and Tribe VMP boxed sets. My wife has the Women of Motown set from VMP. And, like others have mentioned, they are all really, really nice inside and out. My music tastes vary widely, so, I jumped on the upcoming Story of Metal Blade set when VMP announced that one. There’s no reason to expect it to be any less great than the five we currently have in our household.

But, yeah, this Herbie Hancock set is a gem in my collection, for sure.

**Edit: I didn’t know a pressing of Maiden Voyage was coming out later this year. Still, this one is pretty sweet. See the reply thread for more info.

I’ve played all of the records, now. Boy, do they ever sound amazing. Like other reviewers have written: Tons of depth, all around. Lots of space where it needs to be. The staging is definitely present. During, “The Piano,” it sounded like I was sitting on top of the piano he was playing,

How is the sound quality on this? Would you think this is worth having, if I already have the Takin Off (BN80) and Headhunters (Analogue productions)?

Beautiful quality on the box itself and the covers of the albums!! I was blown away by that alone. Haven’t listened to anything yet, just opened it up and looked stuff over. Two of the albums even have Japanese OBI strips which are a nice touch!
