Reviews
- Edited 8 months agoControversial release. The sound is superb - clear, open and wide, detailed top end. Just perfect.
The packaging is awesome too. Cool box with inner sleeves for the each version, nice booklet. Too bad there are regular paper sleeves for the plates.
On the other hand - terrible quality control. All four records are full of scuffs and even scratches. Plates 3 and 4 look just awful - like they came out of the crusher. Luckily most of the scuffs don’t affect the playing. But the scratch in the end of the last track is so bad, that I didn’t want to push my luck and play the record to the end. In fact I have only negative experience with releases pressed in Poland. - Well I seem to have got lucky for once. Spotless vinyl, really quiet pressing and the mastering also seems top. I have the original and got this for the extended version. Compared to the original, there's little really very little if any difference in quality
- Great music, well done mastering but non high level pressing, light background noise even after deep cleaning.
- Does every disc in the Strut box set play at 45 RPM? Tragically, I have been listening at 33 RPM for a couple of months. Embarassing. But honestly incredible at 33. LOL.
The box set is easily 5 stars in every way. Do not get the single LP. Go straight for the Box. - No big complaints about this release. Sound quality is great, especially on the alternate version of the album. My pressing of the primary release has a bit of a warp to it and some background crackling if I listen VERY closely. Overall happy with my purchase.
- I took the plunge on a copy of this the other day, and there's something wrong with all but one of the eight sides of vinyl, from fingerprints to scratches to strangely uniform-looking gouges and marks that look as if they were made by a machine... but miraculously every side plays smoothly and without interruptions. It's a good remaster too, in my opinion, and the pressing itself seems fine. Approach with a degree of caution though!
- Was halfway to shelling out for the LP box set today but plumped for the 2CD instead, sounds like it was a good decision based on the below. Thought it was odd that they spread it out over 4LPs, doesnt really make sense.
- Why is this spread over eight sides of vinyl when it would comfortably fit onto four? I mean, one side consisting of just an 8-minute track? Seems like an unnecessary expense and an inefficient use of resources and materials...or is there something I'm missing here?
- Well I must've lucked out, my copy is clean as a whistle, no debris or fingerprints, two discs have a *tiny* bit of an edge warp that DNAP, and happily, they are perfectly centered. I'm extremely sensitive to seasick vibes on off-centered discs so I'm relieved these don't have that issue. Love having the alternate mix with the extendo versions of a couple of the tracks; this is a glorious album. Gonna go blast off toward Saturn again rn as a matter of fact.
- Mine arrived today (pre-ordered last March...).
So far, so good, the discs are in perfect condition, dead quiet vinyl and wonderful sound
