- Edited 9 months agoMy store acquired someone's classical collection and I spotted this gem among several minty DG releases; this copy in unplayed condition.
Beethoven's 7th is exciting, powerful, and contains much of the magic of his 6th and 8th symphonies. Von Karajan's interpretation is exquisite. Quick program note: the 2nd mvmt, Allegretto, is a real toe tapper, and the last minute of the 4th, Allegro con brio, has much brio! [Cat owners, 1st movement has jump-scares-Kitty no likey]
The recording is outstanding with full dynamics and an engaging stereo soundstage. Pressing is every bit as good as these early DG releases can be, even when the meters start to peak, it holds together well.
The cover photo is a little sus given Herbert was a card carrying Nazi.
3.5 stars.
