- My goodness. This thing sounds like butter. Might be the best sounding record in my collection. No notes.
- My first Japanese pressing of any record. WOW. This is insane. Lucky to find a near mint copy with a very clean jacket. I’m comparing to the 2016 release and aside from being totally silent (minus 3 low sound pops) compared to the constant pops of the new pressing it just sounds better. The dynamics are so refined and balanced compared to the in your face cut of the 2016 pressing. The Japanese pressing never looses control on the highs or lows on every mm of the wax. You can push up the volume and it keeps composed. The 2016 pressing lacks this finesse and quickly looses its range when pushed. Like others have noted the drums moves throughout the speakers and seem to fill the room. Such an important part of the recording. Every instrument is separated that creates a 3D experience. This pressing is so good with such a refined presentation that it transforms the album into something I can listen too much more than modern cut. It’s clear but warm with great lows, mids and highs. It moves you with the music rather than forcing you to listen due to be louder passages on the modern cut. Maybe it’s the analog process vs digital? I can’t recommend this pressing enough.
- I guess it is that time to add my two cents. I bought this new @ GNP Stereo, Pasadena, CA in 1983 with my friend who bought the MFSL Dark Side of the Moon. LOL. Its my best piece of wax that I have. As an earlier reviewer stated, its got that analog goeyness and warmth and oh so quiet. I have never AB'd it against a British press but I really dont care. It has only been played 1/2 dozen times to tape.
- Even on my modest set up the clarity, instrument separation and soundstage dwarfs my New Zealand pressing by along way (which I thought was pretty good initially). Much to love here.
- It's the drums, they are so clear and punchy on this press. Other sounds come through clear, excellent soundstage. Preferred to my UK first...
- I compared three records: the English original vinyl, the Japanese first press and the 1991 UDCD MFSL. Theta Compli Transport CD Player with Theta DAC. Pioneer PL-70 vinyl player, Shure V15-2 heads, AT OC9 Shibata, Sumiko Blue Point-2 (Shibata). Definitely the first Japanese vinyl press replays the English vinyl original, and UDCD MFSL.
- Alguien sabe donde puedo conseguir el OBI subido al Internet, buena calidad para imprimirlo. Muchas gracias, soy de Ecuador
- Got this press in mint condition . No foxing on the sleeve which is a rare find. The sound quality is great . Im not using high end cart , just the ortofon concorde mix for my dj stuffs. Have not tried on other expensive cart but the sound seperation , instruments is perfect . I have the german 1st press which is more punchy on its lows slight warm sound . This japan mastering is more neutral in a good way . Good buy if you able to get in vg / mint condition and plus the obi .
- What is the deal with the large clear rectangular sticker on the front (says Pink Floyd The Wall)? I have two copies of this. One has the large clear sticker on it and the other doesn’t. Was this factory placed or did the sticker come inside and the first owner could apply it to the jacket? Or is it just that some had it and others didn’t?
- Picked this up during a recent visit to Japan, and it sounds great. The drums sound huge and booming but still tight, the guitar solos have all the screaming bite you want, the bass punches easily through the mix, and everything remains very detailed during quiet parts. It's easily one of the best sounding records in my collection, and definitely doesn't suffer from any lack of bottom-end like many people report for Japanese pressings.
