I remember the first time I heard the original version of “Ride Into The Sun” ... a stunning little masterpiece by The Velvet Underground, sounding for all the world like they were on the nod, a song perfectly suited for the Tuinals and Quaaludes that were running through my head, where even the tips of my fingers felt good. I recall a rye smile refusing to leave my face as I exhaled, thinking that things could never get better than this. Flash forward to 1993, and Luna preform the song exactly as I was hearing it so many years ago ... slowing things down to a mere crawl, not even beginning the lyrics for almost 90 seconds, filling my head with anticipation, while I stumbled toward ecstasy, realizing that with Luna’s fuzzed out guitars and enchanting effects, things would actually never get any better than this.

Of course Luna cuts the Beat Happenings’ song from the same cloth, washing through my head and engulfing me in wondrous splendor, where all I want to do is swallow a gentle pill, lay back and view the world through half closed eyes, while the setting sun warms my upturned face, and my staggering feet have nowhere else to go.

These songs are haunting blissed out pieces of perfection ... like riding clouds on a gentle breeze.
