If this is the Best sounding version, then this album could be done better. Bought mine sealed, unplayed. I was the first to drop the needle. Vinyl had a little bit of background noise, I thought sides 1 and 4 sounded better than 2 and 3, the latter sounded more relaxed. This was the first pressing of this album I bought, so I can't compare it to anything else, but I wish this had more thump. Every good hip hop record does.
It's not worth the 175 total I paid for it, but if the other pressings are worse, I guess go for this one.

Both the OG 1989 press and this sound great. Bass on this pressing is noticeably deeper and boomin'. Think this has a slight advantage in overall sound

I finally tracked down a perfectly clean original 1989 8-panel and have the final piece I need for my massive shoutout. So it’s the OG 1989 1LP vs 1998 2LP (this pressing) vs 2009 20th anniversary 1LP vs 30th anniversary purple 2LP. I compared multiple tracks on all pressings and compensated in volume for the records that were cut a little hotter. I can say with confidence on my own system with my ears that this pressing here is the one to own. It stood head and shoulders above the other three pressings. Get it.

This version is definitely superior to 30th anniversary edition (EU). I've not listened to US anniversary edition tho. but Shoot out between this and 30th EU violet edition didn't take much time. Within a minute you can see the difference between the two.

This version still better than the 30 anniversary version... but the colored vinyl on the 30 anniversary is nice.

Just picked this up. It isn't hands down better than the 20th anniversary edition, but it is better. Some tracks are more noticeable in clarity and bass than others. Let's see how the new (digital remastered???) 2LP Purple sounds...

I have the original 1989 American LP, cassette, and CD issues of Paul's Boutique, along with the 2009 CD and LP 20th-anniversary remasters. But this 2xLP pressing, from 1998, sounds the best in my opinion. By far. If you are a die-hard Beastie Boy or Girl, I highly recommend picking up this version.
