Well, that's how it can go in life. I remember leaving this record in the store back then, thinking it was good, but not worth buying. I was out of cash all the time and had to focus on better discs, so that´s my excuse today. And now I got my hands on a fairly inexpensive copy, my third P.U.S. so far, of course still much more expensive than I could have had it for back then. But I grabbed it. Today, some 20 years later, I appreciate the tasteful retro sound, the boys are now little legends among fans, one of them is dead by now. :-( I still prefer the quite similar Ugly Duklings, they are more crisp, but nevertheless it all sinks in your music bones pleasantly, the samples are super groovy for the most part, a bit of raggae toasting in between without sounding poppy or "made for hits", not intrusive, I enjoyed the fat beats, as much as the off-beats too, the rolling and occasionally quite thick basslines, the nice and sometimes quite oldschoolish rhyming and themes and it never comes across as overloaded. Lovely, funky stuff I miss these days. A bad move to have slept on them for about 15 years.

If this album was a meal I’d probably regret a few dishes at the end when digesting. But that doesn’t take away from the fact it was delicious! Tasty tunes on all 4 sides. Jappy Jap, The Hang Loose, Montego Bay, Acid Raindrops and The Breakdown whet my appetite and I don’t hesitate to call this album a fiest. As they explain it themselves in the liner notes, “an album made up of old records and personal experiences”. 20 years later it still feels funky, fresh and tasty. Rest In Peace Double K! Gone way too soon. Rest assured your music lives on here on earth.

Piecelock has confirmed a brand new reissue is coming out on his own label (PL7025), in addition to the VMP version. I will be buying one as a special Christmas present for my lovely girlfriend, to go with the electronic egg boiler see has asked for!!
