The Velvet Underground – Singles 1966-69

Are the generic sleeves completely blank as seen in the images or do they have text on the other side?

Not as bad as people say. The sound is not great, they sound like old jukebox singles, a bit rough, which may or may not add to authenticity. Mine had no inner holes, I had to buy the triangular spacers. The brown sleeves on majority are boring, but I guess authentic. Nice overall but pricey. But what isn't? If bothered by that, just get CDs or DL.

It’s cool to have as a collector, but it is not worth the price. They sound alright but I expected much better.

i am bitterly dissapointed about a poor performance of this 7 x 7'' box.
if you are a real velvet underground fan, you better look some elsewhere !!!

i am in the 7'' inch business for a long time now,
since became a lover of jamaican music.
7'' & 12'' vinyl are well known for a powerful sound.
especially us & eu releases.

i expected some well mastered & produced 7 inches from one of my favorite labels,
due to the price of this box.
but the dynamic is very very low here
that will cause high surface noise some day.
i pre mono versions but any well pressed stereo version from album sounds much better than this.
even they are not flat, not pressed well,
can't believe my eyes.

For the cost that this box set is going for currently I have to say it's not totally worth getting unless you're one who HAS to have it regardless. It is a great collector's item, I will give it that, and when I first learned of its release I didn't hesitate to buy it, though I feel it may've been a bit of a waste, considering I have essentially all of the material already, but the extra 'radio spot's record is a great bonus, and the mono mixes, which I don't have on CD, are exciting, getting to hear some of my all-time favorites in a new light. And let's face it, vinyl records are SOOO much cooler to have than CD's, there's just something about the appeal of a record that CD's will never have, and don't get me started on people who buy only mp3's...

Anyway, what is here, as is clear in the thorough description, are 7"records, though unfortunately only two of them have colored sleeves (the rest have plain brown paper sleeves); although All Tomorrow's Parties is pretty much the only one that originally did come with a colored sleeve (and in this collection the Radio Spot sleeve gets its own, made from their third album cover photo) I still think they could've done some photoshopping of old band photos (like all the booleggers do) for those extra 5 records to give the set a more visual appeal. That is essentially my biggest dissappointment.

But this set does obviously have a great many perks, including, as I've said before, the one record that has the radio spots, the two aborted singles, the booklet and the neat little postcard, which came as a delightful surprise, because it can now join my collection of musician postcards.

I'm also totally fine with the fact that this collection completely neglects the singles from Loaded (which makes sense since that's on a different record company); I don't care what anyone says, Loaded is 80% mainstream wannabe garbage, and the rest isn't that much better in my opinion.

Altogether, if you aren't a major completist of VU but want something new for your collection, I'd strongly recommend skipping this and try seeking out some good bootlegged live recordings, since VU is notorious for their live work, seemingly almost moreso than their studio works.
