Excellent recording and production captures many of the exciting elements of their first but once the singing starts so does the cringe.

Does anyone else's copy only have the 'N I G H T S' text across the top of sleeve (missing the 'O U T S' as pictured)? My CD copy matches this in every way other than the sleeve in the photograph. Can't find any mention online of there being a misprint or anything like that? I bought this record when it came out so may have been amended in later runs?

The intro of Metronomy's NIGHTS OUT sounds like a horn-dirge, all plaintive notes and guitar plucks, but this goes out the window with "The End of You Too, which lays on the handclaps and sharp drum snaps, with an occasional harmonica. The cool 80s-style vocals glide onto "Radio Ladio" and "A Thing for Me" for some retro electro fun, while "My Heart Rate Rapid" pitch shifts those vocals to turn liquid. The cacophony of instruments on "Heartbreaker" brings forth a mad wistfulness, and two instrumentals help clear the way for the disco clatter of "Holiday." "Back on the Motorway" goes for shinier pop, like Cut Copy gone slightly askew, and "On Dancefloors" takes its groove in a slightly moodier direction before the twangy "Nights Outro" closes the album. A cute album.
