Notes

This Japan-only release is the only single from the remixes album '26 Mixes For Cash'. Reportedly limited to 1,000 copies, this release also has the distinction of being the only release where you can get these two tracks on vinyl, as plans for a vinyl release for '26 Mixes For Cash' were scrapped.

Runout grooves etching 'Spin for cash'.

'SAW2 CD1 TRK2 - Original Mix' was originally broadcast on Aphex Twin's Peel Session on BBC Radio 1 in 1995. It is unknown if this really is the 'Original Mix' of this track, as SAW2 (Selected Ambient Works Volume 2) came out in 1994.

The acid edit sounds like a Chemical Brothers B-Side track

The "26 Remixes for Cash" vinyl edition was scrapped but somebody was keen enough to bring out at least a part of the 2CD on vinyl. If you want the Acid Edit (which is pure acidic brilliance) plus eight more tracks on vinyl, better get the unofficial release "Remixes 1"! And it does not cost 50 quid!

These two tracks are absolutely superb. The Windowlicker Acid Edit is full of the yummy acid grittyness which doesn't feature too much in the simply brilliant original, which makes me think of this cut as a companion piece rather than a remix. This version is rather empty sounding and uses silence and gaps to further expose the crisp and cutting acid and tight broken beat. I'm especially fond of the cow bell which tings throughout the track.

The beatless SAW2 track from the ambient works was always one of my favorites to float off into my subconscious on, and this mix puts a hypnotic groove to an already hypnotic tune. Unmistakably Aphex Twin's work, the gentle yet driving beat massages your frontal lobes till your eyes start seeing black and white spirals pulsating from the walls.

Love it.

Ps. The stuff about this record being limited to 1000 copies is absolute bollocks, and anyone considering paying fifty pounds on eBay for it should snap out of it. I was in Japan last Christmas and in one record store alone i saw five copies of this 12" lying in the electronic section all marked 1000 yen (AUS $12 or 5 pounds). Definitly worth getting these tracks on vinyl but please don't be a sucker and give some con ten times what he paid for it.
