- So lucky to have this on CD from back then. From the few things that I have listened always / in this age of constantly listening to new stuff without staying on a particular track or album for long. RIP Lee. Thank you.
- Brilliant!! Somewhat bittersweet also . The way Perry regressed during the 90's till the present day .
Living is Switzerland with countless sycophants around him who'll adore his every fart . - The ultimate collection for a Black Ark beginner! If you want to get into Lee Perry & his Black Ark recordings this is the best place to start!
- Edited 16 years agoThis is a must get album for anyone who is a fan of reggae/dub.
If I had to choose and album to keep out of my collection, than this is it !!!!
It's fun, funky awesome rythm and you never get tired of listening to it.
This album travels with me everywhere I go. - Edited 17 years agoThis is one of the greatest compilations of music EVER! and I mean across all genres. This absolutely stupendous 3 CD set covers some of the best material of work by the Jamaican legend and genius that is Lee 'Scratch' Perry. The box set covers his legendary period of work created at his famous Black Ark studios (which he later burnt down in a state of paranoia). It's such an astounding body of work, covering his work as an artist, producer and remixer extradoniare, working with a whole host of Jamaican legends such as Max Romeo, Junior Murvin, Augustus Pablo, The Congos, The Heptones and of course Perry'y own superb band The Upsetters. There are stunning roots anthems on here, as well as deep bass heavy dub classics, funky uplifting soulful reggae, and political & socially conscious reggae of the very highest order. If you are looking for an appropriate place to start exploring Lee Perry's incredible body of work or even just thinking about getting some classic reggae, then this is a brilliant collection that really showcases some of the greatest Jamaican music ever created. This set would be in my desert island discs collection. 5 STARS AND THEN SOME...
