- Edited 3 months agoThis pressing sounds great. It got much clearer sound than my older pressing from 1983.
Only negative about this newer release is the print on the gatefold cover. The awesome artwork, by English illustrator Mark Wilkinson, is much darker than it should be, causing a loss of detail. Comparing it with my older 83 release you can easily see the difference. - Garbage! Distortion everywhere.
The 2 star is for the good work in cover and print. Bad remaster in a excellent record. - Goodness me! I went through my early teens with this album, recording my original vinyl to cassette so I could listen to it wherever I went. Finally decided to pick up a remastered version. What a revelation. The clarity, soundstage and presentation of the voice and music is just astounding. To me, this is on par with some of the Grundman Pink Floyd remasters for quality. Just excellent.
- This review is not about music, it is about this particular vinyl pressing (by Optimal in Germany). First record had audible scuffs and scratches on side 2. Replacement was warped (dished). Returned both and purchased it again. First record is badly warped and spindle hole is off-center. Replacement came in today - Amazon sent an already open record with audible tiny scratches throughout (I assume somebody already returned it ones). Optimal pressings are always a gamble - if they didn't ruin it at the factory, then it is perfect. But you never know which you are going to get. At the same time I ordered Marillion "Fugazi" (also pressed at Optimal) and it was perfect. Go figure.
- this sounds absolutely amazing, one of the best sounding records, top tier, brilliant remix and mastering, Crystal clear, deep bass, huge soundstage, just great, get it
- There is so much rubbish quality being produced these days, this is not an example. Brilliant. Highly recommend getting hold of this if a fan.
- Mastering sounds great, but pretty frequent audible non-fill on side 1. I could see these sections all over the disc after cleaning it so I guess I wasn't surprised. But I am disappointed. I guess I'll give another copy a try. It's a bit weird because I've never had too many problems with non-fill, even with a lot of extremely cheaply pressed diy records. But god it's all over side 1. It is apparent in every song.
