I wanted to collect up some work by this ensemble for nearly twenty years after hearing a snatch of them on the radio & liking the non-musician/musicians swap instruments idea. However, whereas I revel in that sort of thing applied to new compositions, I have to say that at full-length, tackling many genuinely classic pop records, they come across a little melancholic/dismal to me, sounding like a bad community band unfortunately captured on record whilst the air is let out of them. A noble attempt to free music up for the masses & get to the heart of popular composition of course though! I'm left thinking that it took me that long to find their stuff because of how (presumably deliberately) generically classical-looking the sleeve art is - it was only a careful eye that picked it out amongst the usual suspects. Go out & seek & review...
