As I remember it, the NME’s “New Rock Revolution” was tailing off a bit when this landed. There was a British scene, around the Libertines in the south, the Coral and bands around them (the Zutons and the Crescent) in the northwest. But FF dropped this, commanding the boys to dance and we did. They had great energy live, they were sharp as their suits. Suddenly those charity shop suit jackets we bought off the back of Is This It were back out and the royal engineers jackets we were wearing to see the libertines took a back seat. Angular indie at its best.
