This album sounds amazing. I can't imagine this pressing giving anything away to an original.

+'Justments: classic album in my personal cannon. Bill Withers most complete "vision" of what an album could be. this sits on my shelf next to Blood On The Tracks, Blue, 808s & Heartbreak, Hear My Dear and a few other dark masterpieces.

A/B comparisons of
-VMP Classics Pressing
-Orignal 1974 Monarch Pressing
-2010 Japanese digital remaster
-also i used to have a Sonic Pressing (no longer with me) but it wasn't a match for my Monarch

-This album demands the quiet and open soundstage. The QRP pressing no surprise delivers. It takes songs "Can We Pretend" to another level.
-People always use the argument "I could just get this one in the $1 bin". No. No, you can't. There is a noticeable difference with pressings like this and the originals. Even an original Monarch doesn't quite have the same precision that's on display with the VMP.
-The Monarch is great in it's own right. Highly recommended. My copy has some moments of distortion on the high end. Same with the Sonic from what I remember. And it's just not quiet. I'm all in for the crackle and feel of old vinyl especially for some records. But when I hear Stories, I don't want to hear anything else in the room but me, Bill, that piano and that damn harp (check the credits: it's Dorothy Ashby). And when there is bass, it's so much more robust on this reissue. thank you Ryan Smith.
-I have always loved the Japanese digital remaster. It sounds very clean and smooth, but it does miss some of that air and feeling you get with the wax. Still this was previously my preferred source for listening.
-The major flaw with the VMP pressing is actually the jacket/inner. the colors are washed out compared to the original (or even the facsimile Japanese CD). The originals pop with color and life. little sad, but i'm in this for the music so I'll let it slide.

Highly recommend this pressing. the level of gain between the original and the VMP is similar to how Al Green Call Me bested its previous forms by a wide margin.

Perfect sounding album. I have been listening to it front to back at a good volume. Such a warm soft sound. Dynamic soundstage just really perfectly balanced sounds on this one. It feels so nice to hear.

Impeccable soundstage coming from this record. Love Bill and all that he did, this cut does the art justice.

For those commenting about not getting a booklet, I reached out to customer service, and there was an error, so they’ll be sending them separately.

VMP did a great all-around job on this. Sounds better than my minty Monarch pressing.

I see this quickly falling into one of my most played from the classics track. The pressing does an incredibly delightful album immense justice and then some.

I believe the note book did not come with this release, because I did not get one too.
