I have a 1970 US early repress. This version is vastly superior: better soundstage, better dynamics, better instrumentation, greater clarity. In fact, after listening to a few tracks on each record, I began to wonder if I was listening to different recordings. There is far far more detail on this version - all kinds of things that you don’t hear in the OG. Stunning.
Definite surface noise on both LPs and the sound was inconsistent - had to keep meddling with the bass and treble levels to balance each song in a satisfactory manner. Love the music, but very disappointed with this pressing!
I’m giving 5 stars for the music which is fantastic,, but this record is one of the most poorly mastered I’ve ever come across ,, the treble is WAY WAY to bright and the Bass is very boomey … I can only think that they made a big mistake when mastering this and let it go ,, as I find it hard to believe that it could’ve approved ,, surely the people responsible listened to the end product and if they didn’t think something was wrong maybe they should find a different job. I had to adjust the EQ on my Amp (both bass and treble, down four notches each) and it sounds good/ok then. But I shouldn’t have to do this in the first place.
If you're recently discovering these albums, there is a good chance they'll impress. For me, having had earlier pressings from back in the day, these two-records sound muddy. Very heavy on bass and lack the mid-range earlier versions have. Not unlistenable but disappointing for today's vinyl-pressing technology. These should sound spectacular, but they don't. The label whiffed on this one.
Beautiful edition but unfortunately it seems to me that the remasterisation has been a little abusive to make it sound modern, with a lot of bass frequences... Those two albums deserve to be rediscovered non the less.
I’m going against the grain and say I think it sounds great. There is a huge bass presence and for some people it will be too much, but I like it. Only negative is that the paper sleeves are cheap garbage so they’ll need replacing immediately, and I know the deluxe version got it, but wish each of the vinyls got they’re original covers each. Whilst I haven’t had any issues luckily with the vinyl, they have to be the dirtiest and messy new vinyl I have ever bought with burs in edges of records even cutting through the centre labels
